Some of the Main Differences Between LCD and OLED

1. Display principle:

LCD: Using backlight, the backlight layer emits white light, passing through the color filter and liquid crystal layer, the liquid crystal molecules change direction under the control of current to adjust the transmittance, thereby displaying the image.

OLED: Each pixel is an independent organic light-emitting diode, which emits light directly when current passes through the organic material, without the need for a backlight.

2. Display effect:

Contrast: OLED has extremely high contrast, and the pixel can be completely turned off when displaying black, achieving true black; while LCD has light leakage in the black part due to the existence of backlight, and the contrast is relatively low.


Color saturation: OLED has higher color saturation and can present more vivid colors; LCD color performance is relatively true and accurate.

Response speed: OLED has extremely fast response speed, and can complete pixel color switching within microseconds, and there is almost no smear when watching high-speed motion pictures; LCD has a longer response time, and there may be slight smear when displaying fast-moving objects.

Viewing angle: The viewing angles of both are excellent, generally reaching 170°-180°, and the color, brightness and contrast of the picture do not change much when viewed from different angles.

3. Screen characteristics:

Thinness: OLED has a simple structure and does not require complex components such as a backlight layer. It can be made very thin and light, suitable for thin and light devices and folding screen designs; LCD has a relatively large overall thickness due to factors such as the backlight layer.

Flexibility and bendability: OLED has good flexibility and can achieve flexible, bendable and even foldable screen designs; LCD is difficult to achieve flexible or bendable designs.
